Flat Out Fabulous

Hey lovas, I hope you all had a marvelous holiday weekend. I know I sure did! It was a much needed break and I kicked my feet up in Philly at the infamous Made In America Music Festival. Aside from the washout on Sunday, it was a pretty fun time. Now it's back to business and shoes!

Kicking off this week is the underrated flat. I mean I love a good heel. In fact, unless I am purchasing sandals for summer or ballet flats to kick around on the weekend, I have to admit that I've overpassed this style on more than one occasion.

To my dismay, but I'm sure beknownst to the rest of the shoe-addicts in the world, flats don't have to be seen as just a 'break' from those sky high Tom Ford's, Brian Atwood's or Louboutin pumps - no, no, no - flats can be the anchor to the chicest looks. Darling, flats don't have to fall flat!

Refresh an outfit or create an entirely new look, my Flat Out Fabulous how-to guide will have you running to the nearest retailer for purchase.

ROCKER CHIC

Rock these studded flats with a white t, boyfriend jeans and a motorcycle jacket. Add a couple pieces of jewelry, a great bag and red lip and pow, you're ready for a night out with the girls or a dress down day at the office.

LEADING LADY

For the Jackie O in all of us, flats are not a new phenomenon, but update your look by checking for a metallic, ankle detail or super rich color. Keep it simple and chic with minimal jewelry, a nude lip and my favorite of all - gold ball stud earrings.

Find items (or similar items) here: Metallic Jimmy Choo Flats, Rebecca Minkoff Quilted Bag, Nicholas Kirkwood Orange flats, Gold Ball Stud Earrings, Stovepipe Pants, Pussybow Tie Button down, Make Up Forever Nude Lipstick, Cube Ring, Aquazzura Flats and Valentino Mini Dress.

SPORT NOUVEAUX

You can step out in style with the trend du jour of the season, kicks (check earlier post), without looking a mess. Pop on a red lip - this will take you a long way in any look, some jewels, leather backpack and a layered outfit and you're good to go! P.S. The layers make it easy for you to take this look from day to night AND the backpack is not only chic, but roomy enough for storing the items you've removed. Can I get holler for utility!

Find items (or similar) here: Jimmy Choo Suede Skater Slip On, Fenton Fallon Chain Bracelet, Phillip Lim Sweatshirt Dress, Chanel Leather Espadrilles, Fenton Fallon Chain Necklace, Army Green Vest, Leather Jogging Pants, McQ Alexander McQueen Leather Backpack, and Nars Heat Wave

STEPPIN' PREPPY

The preppy look has always called for flats. It's my favorite look for the weekend and can carry me from brunch to a date with the boo to drinks with my girls. Spice up it with, yes a red lip, some statement jewelry, or a denim dress to add fun and flare.

Find items (or similar) here: J. Crew Schoolboy Blazer, Boyfriend Jeans, Chain Link Chocker, Ferragamo Flats, Pave Gold Cuff, Coach Bag, White T, J. Crew Ballet Flats, Denim Dress and a poppin' red lip

Ciao bellas.

P.S. If you can't already tell, a red lip is my signature. I rock it with almost everything so pardon the bias. I promise to showcase other colors as I have 'em all, but a red lip is sheer perfection. Besos!

Obsession: Ankle Strap

So I'm going to let you in on a little secret....ankle strapped heels are THE best. I've been obsessed with they style since I was a tot rummaging through my moms closet to find her black patent leather ankle strapped heels; I would pretend I was going somewhere fancy, the opera, a dance, shopping and the only heels suitable for the occasion were those ankle straps.

And just so you're clear, here's a few reasons why ankle straps just can't be beat...

  1. It's versatile - you can have an ankle strap wedge, pump, sandal, bootie et al
  2. Straps can be hidden to tone day your day look and exposed for evening
  3. I believe they make your legs, all shapes and all sizes look great - just adds a level of chic and class that can't happen with any other style outside of a pump or slingback (my other obsession)
  4. They work with almost any outfit, shorts, pants, skirts, dresses; they look well with tights and socks

Ok enough of that, you get the point. Check out some of my favs below....

Love these Gianvito Rossi Buckle Strap sandals. I'd rock these on the beach or at the club!

Sleek, chic and sophisticated these red patent leather Casadei's will spice up any outfit.

Chloe, Chloe, Chloe I can count on you for the rough, rugged and fierce all at the same damn time. I need these in my collection ASAP. Rain, snow or sunshine these leather ankle tie shoes will surely give you the case of happy feet!

My shoe designer crush, Sophia Webster hits the nail on the head every. single. time. Mama is definitely winning! I can close my eyes and see myself prancing down the street with these and some cute cutoffs and a white tshirt. aoww!

J'adore, J'adore, J'adore. Leave it up to, yup, Sophia again on her delicious shoe collaboration with J.Crew. I'm still on the hunt for these. Time to get on the phone with my crew connect.

Another shoe designer crush, Charlotte Olympia creates masterpieces full of detail and shape perfection. I'd rock these with a denim on denim look, just because I can.

Last, but most certainly not least, Tom Ford patent leather lock ankle straps. These look almost identical to my moms shoes from many moons ago. Need 'em. Want 'em. Gotta have 'em.
